Principals

Hello! My name is Dustin DeMakas and I am the principal at Fiesta Gardens International School. 

For the last 10 years I have worked in the San Mateo - Foster City School District with five of those years as the physical education teacher between College Park Elementary and Fiesta Gardens. In 2022 - 2023, I had the honor of working hand in hand with our former principal–Directora Jeanette Ramirez–as “Teacher on Special Assignment” for Student Success Services. 

In regards to my own academic career, I received my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Masters in Educational Technology from California State University East Bay and followed by receiving my Administrative Credential from the San Mateo County Office of Education. 

It has been my honor to be a part of the Fiesta Gardens Community and watch your little ones grow these last 9 years. Fiesta Gardens feels more like a family than a school and it is a true testament to our amazing community. 

Having previously worked alongside former Director Daniel Robles, our administrative team will continue the legacy that our former Directora Jeannette Ramirez established by emphasizing the importance of bilingualism and biliteracy while developing a sense of self and appreciation for diversity. 

Fiesta Gardens International School means that all are welcome and that all of us are working in a unified partnership. All families, teachers, parents, guardians, can create the conditions necessary for all our students to thrive. Our students of color, hispanic, latino, indigenous, white, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and English language learners deserve a community school that is dedicated to their well-being and academic success because “international” means everyone!

Placing a focus on equity and inclusion we will expand our community by respecting and bridging our differences in ways that help us heal and unite, so that we can ensure that every child is seen, valued, and heard.

¡Hola! Me llamo Dustin DeMakas y soy el director de Fiesta Gardens International School.

Durante los últimos 10 años he trabajado en el Distrito Escolar de San Mateo-Foster City; cinco de esos años me desempeñé como maestro de educación física entre las escuelas primarias College Park y Fiesta Gardens. En el ciclo escolar 2022-2023, tuve el honor de trabajar estrechamente con nuestra anterior directora, Jeanette Ramírez, como "Maestro en Comisión Especial" (Teacher on Special Assignment) para los Servicios de Éxito Estudiantil.

En cuanto a mi trayectoria académica, obtuve mi Licenciatura en Ciencias en Kinesiología y mi Maestría en Tecnología Educativa en la California State University, East Bay, y posteriormente recibí mi Credencial Administrativa a través de la Oficina de Educación del Condado de San Mateo.

Ha sido un honor para mí formar parte de la comunidad de Fiesta Gardens y ver crecer a sus hijos durante estos últimos 9 años. Fiesta Gardens se siente más como una familia que como una escuela, lo cual es un verdadero testimonio de nuestra maravillosa comunidad.
Tras haber trabajado anteriormente junto al exdirector Daniel Robles, nuestro equipo administrativo continuará el legado establecido por la exdirectora Jeannette Ramírez, enfatizando la importancia del bilingüismo y la biliteracidad, al tiempo que fomentamos la identidad personal y el aprecio por la diversidad.

Fiesta Gardens International School significa que todos son bienvenidos y que trabajamos en una colaboración unificada. Todas las familias, maestros, padres y tutores pueden crear las condiciones necesarias para que nuestros estudiantes prosperen. Nuestros estudiantes de color —hispanos, latinos, indígenas, blancos, LGBTQ+, neurodivergentes y aprendices del idioma inglés— merecen una escuela comunitaria dedicada a su bienestar y éxito académico, ¡porque "internacional" significa todos!

Dear Fiesta Gardens International School (FGIS) Falcon family, 

At FGIS, we believe every child deserves encouragement, opportunity, and a caring community to help them succeed. As someone who is bilingual thanks to my family from Mexico, it is with pride that I join a school team of educators who seek to strengthen each student's access to a world of possibilities. Growing up in San Francisco, I had teachers and mentors who guided, encouraged and strengthened my learning. I earned a Master's degree and most recently pursued my doctorate. Throughout my educational career of over 25 years, I have encouraged hands-on learning experiences by mentoring students and staff to ensure that every child-no matter their background-has access to the resources they need to thrive. At FGIS, the goal is to have students engage in learning, feel safe, respected, and inspired with the hope that they get the most out of the mentorships all around them. At the end of every school day, I see students' leadership, character, positivity, and empathy towards their classmates. I am excited to be a part of FGIS!

Yo soy bilingüe gracias a mi familia mexicana, me enorgullece unirme a un equipo escolar de educadores que busca fortalecer el acceso de cada estudiante a un mundo de posibilidades. Al crecer en San Francisco, tuve maestros y mentores que guiaron, alentaron y fortalecieron mi aprendizaje. Obtuve una maestría y recientemente cursé mi doctorado. A lo largo de mi carrera educativa de más de 25 años, he tratado de cultivar experiencias de aprendizaje prácticas asesorando a estudiantes y personal para asegurar que cada alumno, sin importar su origen, tenga acceso a los recursos que necesita para prosperar. En FGIS, el objetivo es que los estudiantes participen en el aprendizaje, se sientan seguros, respetados e inspirados, con la esperanza de que aprovechen al máximo las mentorías que los rodean. Al final de cada día escolar, veo el liderazgo, el carácter, la positividad y la empatía de los estudiantes hacia sus compañeros. ¡Estoy emocionada de formar parte de FGIS!
